Troubleshooting

What the bot's less obvious answers mean, and what to do about them.

The commands do not show up in Discord

Type / and start typing the command name — Discord filters the list as you go. If nothing Musicat-related appears, the bot has not been added to that server, or you are in a direct message with somebody else rather than with the bot.

Freshly published commands can take up to an hour to reach every client. Restarting Discord usually brings them in sooner.

"Not connected to musicat"

The command found no Musicat account behind your Discord account. Run /link — that one answers privately and walks you through it.

The Connect button did not work

The link behind it is single use and expires after 15 minutes. Run /link again for a fresh one.

If the page asked you to log in and the login failed, connect from the app instead: Settings → Discord → Connect Discord.

"That person has not connected a musicat account"

You picked somebody who has not connected Musicat to Discord. Nothing on your side to fix — they can run /link themselves.

/np does not show what someone is playing

Several different answers land here, and each one names its cause:

  • No Spotify connected — live playback comes from Spotify, so the account being asked about needs it connected.
  • Not sharing live playback — the profile's owner decides who may see what they are playing right now.
  • Musicat lost access to their Spotify — the authorization expired or was revoked. Reconnecting it in the app under Settings → Spotify fixes it. Spotify requires this roughly every six months; see Spotify.
  • Spotify is rate limiting us / is unreachable — nothing to fix, try again in a moment.

/queue refuses the track

  • Connect Spotify first — queueing writes straight into your player, so the connection has to be there.
  • Spotify would not take it — start playing something on an active device first. Queueing also needs Spotify Premium.
  • Not on Musicat / no Spotify version — the search found nothing to queue. Try the full title, or add the artist name.

/server or /whoknows comes back empty

Only people who connected Musicat count towards a server's charts, and they join the roster once they have run a Musicat command on that server. A new server is genuinely empty until a few people have done both.

If it says nobody has played something, that is the honest answer for the connected members — somebody who never connected does not count, however much they play it.

The games say there is not enough to work with

/pixel needs several albums whose artwork comes from Apple Music, and /guessyear needs albums Apple Music carries a release date for. A small or very new library, or one built mostly around music Apple Music does not cover, may not have enough for a round yet.

/jumble only needs artists, so it is usually the one that still works.

"Somebody beat you to it" or "That round is over"

Only the first correct answer counts. Once it lands, the round is replaced with the reveal and the buttons stop working.

/compat or /duel says to pick somebody else

You picked yourself. Both commands compare two different people.

If a duel says you share no artists, that is the result — there is nothing to compare.
