Discord¶
Musicat has a Discord bot. Once you connect your Musicat account to Discord, slash commands bring your stats, what you are playing right now and the charts of the server you are on straight into the chat.
Connecting your account¶
There are two ways in, and they end up in the same place.
From the app — open Settings → Discord and tap Connect Discord, then approve the request on Discord's page. The card turns to Connected.
From Discord — type /link anywhere the bot is available. The reply is private and carries a Connect musicat button that opens musicat.fm, where you log in. That link belongs to you alone and expires after 15 minutes — if it runs out, just run /link again.
No Musicat account yet? Install the app, create one, then run /link.
Adding the bot to a server¶
Open Settings → Discord → Add to server and pick the server. You need the Manage Server permission there, so it has to be a server you run or one where you have that role.
The bot asks for no permissions in your channels. It never posts on its own — it only answers commands.
Discord also lets you add the bot to your own account instead of a server. Then the commands travel with you and work in direct messages, without anyone else having to install anything. Two commands still need a server, because they are about a group of people: /server and /whoknows.
Who sees the answers¶
Most replies are posted in the channel, so everyone reading along sees them — that is the point of a chart or a duel.
These answer privately, visible only to you: /link, /unlink, /invite, /follow, /unfollow, /queue, /suggest and /help. Wrong guesses in the games are private too, so nobody spoils the round.
What counts on a server¶
Server charts and boards only count people who connected Musicat. Somebody joins the roster once they have connected their account and used any Musicat command on that server, so a fresh server fills up over the first few days rather than instantly.
Disconnecting¶
Open Settings → Discord and tap Disconnect Discord, or run /unlink in Discord.
Commands in Discord will no longer find your profile, and other people will not see you on server charts.
Your Musicat account and listening history are untouched — only the connection between the two accounts goes away. You can connect again at any time.
